IIEC-Africa initially placed its geographic focus on Southern Africa, with special
emphasis on South Africa. However, the office already made inroads into other
African countries and continues to pursue opportunities throughout the African
continent.
IIEC's efforts in South Africa began in June 1994. In September 1996, IIEC
established a permanent presence with its Pretoria office. In May 1998, IIEC-Africa
moved to its present location in Melville, Johannesburg. The foundation of IIEC-Africa's
work has been in the promotion of energy efficient, low-income housing, efficiency
lighting and efficient appliances and construction materials.
IIEC-Africa's
activities are rooted in bringing the benefits of energy efficiency, sustainable
transport and climate change mitigation to disadvantaged communities and are conscious
of equal race and gender representivity.
