Christiana Figueres for Top U.N. Climate Change Position PDF Print E-mail
Christiana Figueres, a former IIEC Board Member, was one of the original promoters of the concept of a programmatic approach to climate change. In recognition of her long-standing leadership in the climate change arena, she has been nominated by President Oscar Arias of Costa Rica for the position of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Climate Change Convention. The Secretary General of the UN will personally select the new Secretary of the UNCCC through a merit-based selection process, and governments will undoubtedly have an opinion as well. She has broad support from many countries already. However, a group of impressed friends has decided that this is an excellent opportunity to make the voice of civil society heard in the midst of UN and government decisions.

A Facebook page is created to gather short testimonials of how Christiana's work may have impacted or inspired the work of others. Please join us in posing a message directly on the Facebook group "Christiana Figueres for UN Climate Change Secretariat" at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=392059726753.

And even if you do not have a short testimonial to give but you still feel that Christiana is the right person to lead the UNFCCC going forward, please join the group, and encourage other people to join the group. This is required 5,000 people by March 31 to demonstrate that civil society cares about climate change and cares about who leads.
