Vietnam: Clean Energy Finance Activities
Impacts: Establishment of a EE Loan Guarantee Fund for SMEs; and Investment of EE projects in large energy intensive industries
IIEC assisted the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in implementing the Vietnam National Energy Efficiency Program in Vietnam. This program enabled the development of a financing mechanism that would mobilize funding from multilateral and local resources to support EE investment projects for energy intensive large industries. The task also included the assessment of the market potential for financing EE projects.
In 2003, IIEC provided financial advisory services to the government of Vietnam with support from the United Nations Development Programme /Global Environment Facility (UNDP/GEF) in determining the appropriate financial mechanism for the Promotion of Energy Conservation in Small and Medium Enterprises. This projected helped to address the financial barriers of Small and Medium Enterprises’ (SMEs) in accessing commercial finance.
IIEC also developed and conducted a training program for potential energy service providers in Vietnam on business marketing and developing EE investment grade studies.
