DSM Implementation and Energy Building Codes - India (2003 - 2005)
The objective of this project is to provide the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) with technical assistance and training to implement the DSM and Building Code components of its Action Plan. Faced with the challenges in India’s power sector such as capacity constraints, power quality and reliability, low collection efficiency, and tariff subsidies, the BEE is determined to prove the Action Plan it has developed under USAID’s Energy Conservation and Commercialization (ECO) project. The BEE needs this technical assistance in light of the existing policy and market barriers to the widespread commercialization and large-scale implementation of end-use energy efficiency improvements in India.
In assisting BEE-India, IIEC has helped establish DSM Cells in two state utilities. Studies on load research and market research were carried out for the development of a database for program design. There was also an assessment of DSM potential and demonstration pilot of DSM programs in commercial, municipal, residential, and agricultural sectors. Lastly, the energy efficiency building code for the commercial sector was developed.
