Study for Climate Resilient Agriculture in Assam (2018)
This project aimed to outline steps to facilitate policy uptake of value chain analysis while providing additional support to build the resilience of the sector to climate change. This project focuses on 1) Establishing a clear road map for reviving ginger corp production; 2) Develop an easy to use guide for vulnerability assessment methodology using ginger corp as an example; 3) Develop a framework for establishing community-based seed banks, and 4) Capacity building on performing in-depth vulnerability assessment and establishing community seed banks.
IIEC performs the following activities:
Activity 1: Vulnerability Assessment Report - Finalize a method to conduct in-depth vulnerability assessment for Ginger.
Activity 2: Reviving Ginger Production - Review the crop-specific strategies identified for Ginger crop identified in the Value Chain Analysis report developed by the programme in the first phase and Detail approach and methodology paper on reviving ginger production.
Activity 3: Framework for establishing community-based seed banks - Prioritize an agro-climatic zone and Conduct situation analysis for seed banks with the farming community.
Activity 4: Capacity Building - Organize training sessions for of the agriculture department officials and institute representatives on in-depth vulnerability assessment method documented in the report and Conduct training sessions with farmers to orient and train them on the framework for establishing the community-based seed banks along with management skills required to support its day to day function.
