This project introduced brick-making technology to South Africa to transform its housing market. This market transformation was achieved through the capacitation of SMEs in local brick-making technology in order to access mainstream housing practices and activities in South Africa. This project also developed and demonstrated business models that aimed to mainstream an innovative brick-making machine that makes cheaper bricks of high quality, using local materials through SME capacitation. In effect, it provided a model for sustainable job creation (brick-making), whilst supporting local entrepreneurs to be actively involved in providing housing for poor communities in South Africa.
