Consultation Workshops on Mandatory Energy Audit Policy for Large Energy Consumers in Jordan
As part of an ongoing cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), and the United States Agency for International Development Energy Sector Capacity Building Activity (USAID ESCB) convened two one-day consultation workshops on January 31 and February 1, 2017, with the commercial and industrial sectors to present the rationale for a mandatory energy audit policy for large energy consumers and discuss how it will benefit participating commercial and industrial companies. These consultation workshops were co-sponsored with the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).

Mr. Sommai Phon-Amnuaisuk, IIEC Vice President, Asia Pacific and Mr. Sanjay Dube, IIEC Vice President, South Asia, presented a compulsory energy audit policy to fit Jordan's needs and recommendations on additional policies supporting commercial and industrial energy efficiency.
In 2012, MEMR enacted Bylaw No. 73 of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Law that requires large energy consumers to conduct an energy audit of their facilities every three years. The Bylaw defines large energy consumers as those consuming more than 50 tons of oil equivalent per year. MEMR is developing its plans for implementation of the mandatory audit requirement and is seeking comment from all concerned parties. Feedback from these workshops will reflect on a set of recommendations for MEMR to consider when developing the bylaw implementation plan.
