Enhancement of MV&E on Minimum Energy Performance Standard Labeling (MEPSL) Program for Appliance and Lighting Products in Vanuatu

Enhancement of MV&E on Minimum Energy Performance Standard Labeling (MEPSL) Program for Appliance and Lighting Products in Vanuatu

The two-day training workshop on Monitoring, Verification, and Enforcement (MV&E) of the MEPSL program has recently been organized during 9-10 November 2022, in Port Vila, Vanuatu, as part of the “Enhance Vanuatu’s Market for Energy Efficient Appliances” project, which is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) through the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN).

The main objectives of the training are to ensure a locally-led, effective operation and progressive enhancement of MV&E and product registration process under the Department of Energy (DOE)'s MEPSL program for electrical appliances and lighting products.

The training workshop was deemed successful, given the project team, DOE, and Customs officials were open to discussing face-to-face and exchanging their views on improving the current constraints in the registration, certification, and import processing in relation to control of the regulated products entering Vanuatu.

About the Project
The objective of the “Enhance Vanuatu’s Market for Energy Efficient Appliances” project is to support accelerating the transition to energy-efficient appliances through 1) improvement of the minimum energy performance standards and labeling (MEPSL) program; 2) enhancement of monitoring, verification, and enforcement (MV&E) activities and a product registration system for MEPSL program; and 3) introduction of potential financial mechanisms that would enhance end-users access to energy-efficient appliances and lighting products.
